Planning a winter break in Cancun with kids (December 20 - January 4)
The week between Christmas and New Year is the busiest of the year in Cancun: AAA forecast a record year-end holiday season with more than 122 million Americans traveling (AAA Newsroom, 10.12.2025). The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30 (NOAA National Hurricane Center), so late December is outside it. Every foreign visitor to Quintana Roo, including children, pays the Visitax fee of 285 pesos per person, online only at visitax.gob.mx (checked 19.10.2026). If your flight connects through the United States, every traveler needs an approved ESTA, $40.62 per person at the official site esta.cbp.dhs.gov (checked 19.10.2026).

Book flights and the resort as early as you can for this window, and plan day trips for early starts. Our three Cancun guides: Hyatt Ziva Cancun with kids, Cancun to Isla Mujeres with kids and Chichen Itza with kids.
